“Debbie?  We understand that you have what we consider ‘gifts’ in the areas of hearing, mind functions such as projection and empathy, and some dreaming capabilities.  While we will be examining and testing these ‘gifts’ the tests may trigger or discover other such possibilities or even enhance the current functions of the ones you now have.

You must understand we do not have such ‘gifts’ and although we take certain measures to ensure our own safety if we find you have been misusing your abilities we will be forced to terminate your program.  That is not to say we wouldn’t take in to account the how’s or why’s of what might occur considering your abilities extend to beyond the conscience state.  We just wish you to understand the outcome of knowingly abusing your gifts toward this program.  Do you understand this?”

“Yes!”  Debbie bit the inside of her cheek while analyzing why she suddenly felt uncomfortable.  Somehow she knew it had to do with her own lack of ability to control certain elements of her skills.

“Something wrong Debbie?”  Dr. Rain’s voice inquired from the dark.  Debbie looked over at the shadows frowning.  She realized she had begun to tap the glass she held in her hand.  Her fingers doing the talking for her distressed mind.  She stopped the tapping.

“I just wanted to state up front that I don’t exactly control all of these things 100%.  I don’t want to get kicked out of the project for that.”

Dr. Shannon reminded Debbie they would be testing throughout the year and would not only be finding limitations to her control but if possible enhancing what control she already had.  Debbie nodded agreeing on the concept and felt herself relax a little.

“You are eventually to be paid an amount of one million dollars if you stay throughout the entire project for the time of one year.  We need you to understand if you decide to quit the project prior to this time frame you will not be paid.  Do you understand this?”

“Yes!”

“Last but not least.  This project is an isolation and restriction project, in part.  You will not associate with others once you have begun the testing other than the doctors you have just listened to.  If you are to be isolated and restricted we will need you to agree to our demands on your housing, diet, and activities.  We don’t want you getting sick or ill in health if we can avoid it.  By regulating these aspects of your life we can attempt some kind of control.  Basically you must obey our rules in these areas.  If you have a complaint about anything you will have time each day to log these complaints to have them corrected.  Do you understand this very important rule?”

“Yes!”  Debbie paused to state firmly.

“Understanding the limitations and guidance we are asking you to take we wish to welcome you to the OASIS project Debbie Brandon.”
